Their unique collaboration began in 2013 to provide shamanic healing support to patients and their family members at UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, CA, and George Mark Children’s House, the first free-standing children’s hospice in the United States. Their collaboration and Transpersonal Medicine approach to healing continues nationwide, and was featured in a nationally broadcast television show, Healing Quest, in a segment titled "Shamans in the ICU."

Shamans In the ICU

Responding to the despair, grief and quarantine that critically ill COVID-19 patients and their loved ones are experiencing, Steinhorn and Din produced a 15 minute guided journey, Guided Journey for the Isolated and the COVID Patients, available on Youtube https://youtu.be/gZB3MIz4YZ8 for these patients, their loved ones, and the medical providers that care for them, to alleviate feelings of isolation, and foster feelings of loving connection with their family members. Guided journeys are similar to guided imagery. The difference is that guided journeys are not scripted in advance, rather, they are narrated in direct response to a stated intention. They have also created a 12 minute guided journey, A Guided Journey for Family and Friends, Supporting Your Loved One During Isolation, available on Youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=seHuGf53oZ8&feature=youtu.be for those who feel distressed not being able to be physically present to provide support for their family member. A guided journey for front-line medical and healthcare workers, and another journey for all people who are experiencing anxiety, stress, grief, loss, and uncertainty, will be available very soon.

“In this beautiful piece, Guided Journey for the Isolated and the COVID Patients, shamanic healer Jana Din gently and skillfully utilizes her drum to quiet the mind as she illustrates with her words the unseen but palpable flow of love engulfing and connecting the listener to those who would be there but cannot. This video would also benefit the loved ones, as both sides suffer greatly from the inability to physically connect. If somehow both the patient and the loved one can listen concurrently, that love connection can be made that might otherwise not happen. Sometimes the deepest feelings of love and loss are too painful to express. This piece speaks for the one who cannot, on both sides.” Kitty Esposto- grateful recipient of Dr. Steinhorn and Jana Din’s collaborative healing intervention at UC Davis Medical Center Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, 2014.
